After a PhD thesis in Acoustics ("Active materials with variable acoustic properties", Université du Maine, Le Mans, France, 2002), Dr. Hervé Lissek joined the Laboratory of Electromagnetics and Acoustics at EPFL as research fellow, to supervise the active noise control activities of the Acoustic Group, in particular within FP5-SILENCE(R) project.
In 2006, Dr. Lissek took the leadership of the Acoustic Group and launched several research projects, together with a strengthening of the collaborations of his group with the European Aeroacoustic Community (FP6- X3-Noise, FP7-TEENI, FP7-OPENAIR), with an emphasis on electroacoustic expertise, active noise control, and acoustic antenna for sound source separation/recognition.
In 2010, the Acoustic Group issued an original paper in Physical Review B opening the doors to novel concepts for sound absorption and negative refraction with micro-structured materials.
